Minutes, December 9, 2002 - Veterans Day
Fellow Moo Cows:
These are notes from the December meeting for your reading enjoyment.
1. Election/Reelection of Officers. You get the pleasure of seeing some new faces in the coming year in the office of Treasurer in John Pekarske, Sgt. at Arms in Randy Adams and Calvin Huggins, Gary and Laura Stewart as Hospitality Chairpersons. Congratulations to the new officers and thank you for volunteering to serve. 2. Parade of Trees. Many people participated in dressing for the occasion in this parade for the people of downtown Atlanta. The Christmas attire and disguises were great. The parade watchers appreciated your efforts. We had 31 bikes ride; 27 of which made the route without incident. We won't mention any brands that failed because someday one of the Harley's will fail and we don't want to have to put up with any "ya, ya, ya, ya, ya's." 3. We passed out many, many renewal forms for membership. If you haven't renewed your membership, get a form and reup. The cost is only $15.00 and the benefits are too many to begin to mention in this small space. 4. We delivered $887.00 to BNF from our last meeting. Those funds are raised from the cost of the evening meal. We also filled the BNF van almost to capacity with clothing items. We need to continue to collect clothing and toilet items for BNF. This ministry continues to serve Atlanta by donations from all. Every item is appreciated. 5. In this season of giving and receiving, it is important to remember that when Jesus was born on this earth, it was the most valuable gift we could have ever received. This was a gift, not one who would lead the people in battle as envisioned by the Jews, but of one who would bring peace. The peace was not to be of the world, but only peace for those who believe on Him as Lord and Savior. Only He can bring true peace to you and me while we live our short time upon this earth. 6. Personal Notes. (a) You folk are a pleasure to serve. Your love of biking, of each other, of service, of giving, of enjoying the gift of life are what makes it worth while. We won't always meet your individual needs, but we will have fun anyway. Your willingness to participate in the group makes it a success. Keep up the great work. The Vice Cow
The Head Cow and Vice Cow positions return for another year of service, as does Mark Trail as Ride Captain, Randy Adams as Charity Development Chairman, and Frank James as Harley Raffle Chairman and Safety Instructor.
We will be meeting in January and February to plan the coming year. If you have ideas you wish to present, please provide me the information. We will be calling on more and more of you to participate in leadership roles within the group.
I think it is safe to say that even the lady's enjoyed our efforts at dressing the bikes and ourselves for the occasion. The kids didn't have to wait on Santa at the end of the parade. One was traveling disguised as a Moo Cow Biker.
Thanks to all who braved the cool weather early in the morning and who rose to the occasion for this parade. It will be harder to appease the football crowd for the Peachbowl Parade on Dec. 31. Maybe Chick-fil-A will prepare small footballs to throw out.
During this Christmas time when we are sometimes so wrapped up in giving and receiving, remember to find your true peace.
(b) This is not a normal request, but I covet your prayers for a fellow biker. Larry (not our Grey Beard's Larry) is a friend with whom I have ridden literally thousands of miles. We have been known to ride 5800 miles during a week just to see another part of the United States. Larry has cancer of the esophagus and will have it removed this month. He also has a mass on his liver, but doesn't know if it is cancer. Larry needs your prayers for peace, for his doctors, for an understanding and acceptance of God's will in this matter.
This may not the venue for requests such as this, but it is done now. If this offends you, I won't ask for forgiveness in requesting prayer for a biker brother. We all need it.
May this Christmas season be one of joy for you and your family. May you experience true love of friends, family, neighbors. We hope to see you all in the coming year upon your iron horse and serving others.
