Minutes, February 11, 2002

Welcome

John McGinn, Vice President of the MooCow Bikers, opened the meeting at 8 PM on February 11, 2002. Approximately 43 people were present with several new visitors introducing themselves: Doug Lee, Bo Ingram, Mike Shell, Mike Merit, and Harlin Hamlett. Jeff Pritchett introduced his daughter Kristen who braved the cold and ridden in with her dad.

Officer Election

John went over last month’s notes and reminded everyone we had elected officers in January who will serve for another year term. The officers met with several volunteer directors in late January. The new volunteer directors are: Mark Trail, Ride Captain, Randy Adams, Charity/ Web Page Director, Frank James, Harley Raffle Director, and Cathy Jackson, Social/Hospitality Director.

Blood and Fire (B&F) Update

John stated that our big fundraiser this year for B&F would be the Harley Raffle and our first annual "The Ride for Fire Tour or the Ride-N-Fire Tour." We will need several individuals in the group to get involved in this ‘ride n’ eat’ at the B&F facility. Hopefully, Chick-fil-A (CFA) will provide the band and food. The tentative date has been set as September 14, 2002. We specifically need someone to Chair this event, organize the ride advertisement, help coordinate with a dealer for a bike purchase, and work with CFA for catering. Frank James is already working on the Harley purchase. Tentatively, we hope to sell 400 tickets at $100.00 each. That amount should be enough to purchase a bike for the raffle, t-shirts for ride participants, and also provide a nice donation to B&F.

Events Update

Everyone is encouraged to checkout the calendar pages on our Yahoo Club site. It has over 100 events in and around Georgia running through the Fall months. Old Agenda Items

Patches: John stated we could purchase patches (same size of the logo on the t-shirt/jacket) for $31.50. The price offered to club members will be approximately $40.00-45.00. This will allow us to provide some funds to B&F.

New Agenda Items

Randy Adams discussed the group participating again in the Lakewood Swap Meet (scheduled for June or July 2002). He asked that everyone search through their motorcycle related items at home and bring them to him each meeting. He will ensure we get a booth for the meet. All proceeds from this event will go to B&F.

Safety Brief

No safety brief was given this meeting. We still need someone to volunteer as the Safety Officer.

President’s Last Word

John McGinn read the evening’s devotional message from Proverbs 15, Verses 1-6. Specifically, these verse advise the reader to always have a "gentle or a soft answer." The writer of Proverbs wanted to emphasize how our words can "bring healing and turn away wrath" or the exact opposite: "crush a spirit." John relates these verse to how we should always act toward one another, and specifically how we should portray ourselves to those around us while we are out- and-about as our group. The image we want to present is not of just another motorcycle group, but of a group that is vastly different from all others.
