Minutes, January 14, 2002

Welcome

John McGinn, Vice President of the MooCow Bikers, opened the meeting at 7:45 PM on January 14, 2002.   Over 40 members were present with several new members and visitors.  John stated this would be a general election meeting for officers to serve through December 2002.

Officer Election

John indicated he did not receive any nominations or volunteers for officers from the general membership based on his recent email message.  Recommendations were requested from the member’s present and all current officers were nominated for another term/year:  Dan Cathy, President, John McGinn, Vice President, Cynthia Helmick, Secretary, Jeff Pritchett, Treasurer, and Larry Hiscox, Sergeant of Arms.   The positions of Safety Officer and Ride Captain were left open for future nominations or volunteers.  Each officer was nominated and seconded by the general membership and elected to serve through 2002.

Blood and Fire (B&F) Update

John stated that our group has donated $39,756.00 this year to B&F.  He reminded everyone that there are lots of opportunities to serve and assist B&F.  Numerous members brought blanks, gloves, and hats for B&F donations.

John proposed that we consider creating an annual organized charity ride (similar to the Ride4Kids) with B&F as the beneficiary.   He recommended we charge a nominal fee where the rider would receive a t-shirt and a meal.  Additionally, we might consider raffling off a motorcycle ($100.00 ticket with limited tickets sold).  The ride could end at the B&F facilities where a program (and other entertainment) to educate the attendees about B&F’s mission might be presented by the staff.  John asked the membership to prayerfully consider serving on committees to organize and get the first ride started for this coming year.  The name might tentatively be called “The Ride for Fire Tour.”   Specifically, we need someone to Chair this event, organize the ride advertisement, coordinate with a dealer for a bike purchase, and work with Chick-fil-A for catering.  John thinks that after a few years of steady concentrated advertising this could be a big fundraiser for B&F.

Events Update

Several upcoming events were listed for member’s to consider:

            -  The Great American Motorcycle Show.  This show is schedule for this coming weekend January 18-20, at the North Atlanta Trade Center.  This is one of the biggest motorcycle shows and vendor sales for the Atlanta area this year.  The Trade Center is located in Norcross at 1700 Jeurgens Court.  The exit off I-85 is Indian Hills.

            - International Motorcycle Show.  This show is scheduled for the next weekend, January 25-27.  It is located at the Galleria Convention Center, off Cobb Parkway in Marietta.

            - Bike Week, March.  Bill Croker is heading up a group of individuals to ride to Daytona Bike Week in March.  Riders will leave Thursday, March 7, and head back on Sunday March 10.  Right now the group will probably leave somewhere on the south side of town.  They are planning to stay at the Best Western, Florida Mall, Orlando ($35.00 night).  Call Bill at          404-464-8427 for more details.

            - HOG Road Rally and 100th Anniversary Celebration.  This nationwide rally is coming to the Atlanta Motor Speedway in July.  This is one meeting Harley riders will not want to miss.  The dates are July 19-21, 2002.  Check the January 2002 HOG Magazine for more information.  Registration starts in March.

            - Other planned events….we will continue with our monthly planned rides in 2002.   Right now we have one scheduled for Saturday, March 16, being lead and planned by Bill Croker to the Air Museum in Warner Robins.  More details to follow at the March meeting.  We would also like the membership’s input on holding a group picnic in the summer, a possible sanctioned “Iron Butt” ride, and a group ride with the Ride4Kids organization in June.  We need volunteers to help plan and support these activities!

Everyone is encouraged to checkout our web site and join the Yahoo Club message board.  The URL is: http://clubs.yahoo.com/clubs/moocowbikers .  The club’s on-line calendar has been updated to include many items of interest and local activities through 2002.  If you know of an event (fair, festival, ride, etc) that might be of interest to club members go ahead and add it to the calendar or give it to Cynthia Helmick at chelmick@grci.com.

Minutes

There were no published minutes from December’s meeting.  January’s minutes will be posted to the web and provided to the Vice President for forwarding to the membership.

Administrative Announcements/Reports

a.  Membership:   Membership dues are payable now to Jeff Pritchett.  The cost is still a low, low $15.00.  Please give Jeff any updates to your address/email/phone numbers too.  Thirty-three people renewed their membership at this meeting. That’s a good start but please get with Jeff and commit to staying with us in 2002!

b.  Budget/Funds: Jeff provided an updated budget report on January 16, 2002.  The group at Monday’s meeting generously gave $882.00 (meal and shirts/jackets donations) for B&F.

Calendar/Next Ride

January:  No ride was announced for January.  If you have a ride suggestion get with one of the officers or send an email to John McGinn at jcmcginn01@aol.com.  Everyone is encouraged to plan and lead a ride.

Old Agenda Items

T-Shirts.  John says we are sold out of the gray/black shirts.  Only the red/white and black/white remain.  Get yours before they are all gone.  You’ll need these “cool” shirts for the warm spring/summer riding season coming up.

Website:  Randy Adams volunteered to help update the web site and ensure items of interest, minutes, etc, are there for our members or potential members.  John told Randy to get with Dan for the web site URL and page address links.

New Agenda Items

No new agenda items were covered.

Safety Brief

No safety brief was given this meeting.

President’s Last Word

John McGinn read the evening’s devotional message from the Bible:  The Book of John, Chapter 6, and Verses 35-40.  These verses speak about Jesus being the “Bread of Life.”  Jesus talks to His Disciples saying clearly “he who comes to Me will never go hungry and he who believes in Me will never be thirsty.”  John encouraged us to read and really listen to what Christ specially is saying here.  That whoever comes to Him will never be turned away, and it is our Father’s will that, whoever believes in Christ, will have eternal life.   Come humbly to Christ with all your heart and soul knowing that you glorify God with the acceptance of His Son.
