Minutes, July 14, 2003
Wayne Farr opened the July meeting at 7:00 PM. Wayne asked that we remember John McGinn and his family in our prayers tonight. Wayne welcomed and introduced many visitors. Our headcount for the evening exceeded 80 members and guests.
Chris and Linda Franklin were at the meeting with their new "little one." Chris gave us a brief update on the B&F kitchen. They are feeding approximately 400 people each night and over 1,000 on Sundays.
This Saturday, July 19th, the group will ride to Chattanooga, Tennessee. Look for an email from John with more details.
Ricky Lee, with the Smyrna Police Department, gave us an update on the Camp Sunshine Ride 2003, in honor of Stephanie Phillips. This ride will benefit Camp Sunshine, a special camp for children with cancer. The ride leaves Church in the Now, Conyers, Georgia on Saturday, October 11, 2003. Cost is $25.00 per bike ($10.00 per passenger) and includes t-shirt, free lunch, 50/50 drawings, and great prizes. You can pre-register at www.mccharities.com (click on Camp Sunshine Ride). Ricky asked that if anyone wanted to volunteer to help please call him at 770-943-0309.
Nolan announced the August and October MooCow meetings will take place at different locations. Look for more details and directions in separate email, but plan to attend the August meeting at Truett's Grill #2, 1785 Jonesboro Road, McDonough, Georgia (678-432-2221), exit #221, off I-75 South. The October meeting will be a real special occasion with a BBQ at Truett Cathy's home in Hampton, Georgia. Acres Away is the name of the farm (off highway 19/41, McDonough Road, and Turner Road).
If you have any suggested ride "ideas" provide the information to one of the officers or the Vice Cow at jcmcginn01@aol.com. Mark Trail remains our chief Ride Captain and primary organizer for rides. Give any info to Mark at mtrail@dch.state.ga.us.
Next meeting dates for Calendar Year 2003 are August 11, September 8, October 13, November 10, and December 8.
Dan Cathy, President, gave us a great re-cap of the Kyle Petty's Ride Across America. They traveled from Palm Springs, California all the way across the country through New Mexico, Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, to the final destination of Daytona, Florida. Dan said he was most impressed with the people participating in the ride, especially Kyle Petty. His demeanor is one of a genuine caring Christian. Dan suggested we prayerfully consider having our own "ride across America" to support B&F. He stated that this would be a "BHAG" ….big hairy audacious goal!
The minutes for June 2003 are posted on the website at http://www.moocowbikers.org.
a. Membership: There was no membership report given.
b. Budget/Funds: The June's budget report from John Pekarskae's included a $3,150.00 donation to B&F.
Larry Hiscox reported that MooCow t-shirts are selling bristly at Greybeard's restaurant in North Georgia (better then Greybeard's t-shirts). Over $300.00 was raised this last weekend.
Wayne showed us an example of the new long sleeve "dress" shirt that is selling for $40.00 each. All proceeds go to B&F.
No new agenda items were discussed.
No safety brief was presented.
Ride Captains are reminded they are responsible for a safety brief before each scheduled group ride. Everyone should check out the website for safety information on riding in groups, hand signals, etc. http://www.moocowbikers.org/handsignals.htm
Dan handed out boxes of Chick-fil-A "Be Our Guest" coupons. He reminded us that we are all deputies and goodwill ambassadors for Chick-fil-A. We should look for an opportunity to brighten someone's day and give out these cards. Dan gave a great devotional thought from one of his favorite Bible passages: Colossians 3: 23: "Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving." He reminded us to give all our heart to whatever we do, as if working for the Lord. Dan said: "Ask yourself if your daily work is an act of worship?" He challenged us in everything we do to give wholeheartedly to it and to one another. Do it unto the Lord, with excellence, and let your work be part of your Christian testimony.
Wayne adjourned the meeting at 8:00 PM.
