Minutes, October 11, 20004

Welcome

Dan Cathy, MooCow President, opened the meeting at 7:05 p.m. with a prayer. John McGinn, Vice Cow, made a few introductions and the meeting began. There were approximately 65 members and guests at the meeting.

Blood and Fire (B&F) Update

No B&F update was given.

Events Update

Charlie Sorrell and John gave us a report on the group's ride to the Georgia National Fair and Parade in Perry, Georgia. About 20 riders attended this event. John thanked the Chick-fil-A Corp. for providing three boxes of cows to throw out during the parade; however, as usual we still needed more cows! The parade was well organized as parades go, but we still had to deal with the every-five-feet stop-and-go.

Charlie reminded everyone about the upcoming golf challenge, and requested any participants to get in touch with him about specific dates (weekend or week day).

Next Calendar Ride/Events Update

Official MooCow rides for this year are published on the website. Some highlights are listed below. If you have any suggested ride "ideas", provide the information to our Ride Captain, Leon West at mochrome@netzero.com.

The Chick-fil-A Kyle Petty Nugget Ride is scheduled for Wednesday, October 27, 2004. This ride supports the Victory Junction Gang (founded for kids in honor of Adam Petty). The cost is $145.00 per person. Rider packages will include a commemorative t-shirt, pin, decals, meals, and a special goody bag. Everyone will get to meet NASCAR celebrities, and the ride will be lead by Dan Cathy, our president, and Kyle Petty. The next tentative MooCow ride is November 13, 2004, for the "Elvis" ride. This ride will be to the North Georgia Mountains, a stop at Greybeard's Restaurant, and a visit to the Elvis Theater Show in Helen. The show does not start till 8 p.m., so plan to make arrangements for staying over in Helen for the evening. John McGinn says he will lead a group from the CFA Dwarf House leaving at 8 a.m., that morning. Email John at jcmcginn01@aol.com if you are interested in participating.

Several visitors briefed other ride opportunities:

    - Barbara Williams from "Jesus Set the Captives Free, Inc." asked that we consider participating in a charity bike ride scheduled for Saturday, November 6, 2004. The ride will start and end at Adams Park, 1620 Delowe Drive, East Point, Georgia. There will be prizes and a cookout following the ride. The registration fee is $15.00. This ride is to benefit a group home for the homeless and ex-offenders. For more information please call Arlene Browne 687-640-8438 or Barbara Williams at 404-702-0788.

    - Robbie Waits, from the Blaze-n-Blood Riders (firefighters and emergency technicians), asked us to prayerfully consider supporting their ride this weekend, October 16, 2004. This ride is to benefit Captain David Smith, a 14-year veteran of the Spalding County Fire Department, who was seriously burned in a structure fire in August. David will be out of work for some time. All donations and registration funds go to the Smith family. The ride will start at 9:30 a.m., departing GTO's Restaurant in Griffin, Georgia. The cost is $20.00 single rider and $30.00 rider/passenger. The ride will be police escorted three-fourths of the way and will go through Zebulon, Concord, south, then back to Griffin.

The next meeting dates for CalendarYear 2004 are: November 8, and December 13. The November or December meeting is tentatively planned for Dan Cathy's home.

President’s Last Word

John McGinn told us a short story that happened last Saturday after the Perry parade ride. He said a group of the riders stopped to eat at the Perry Chick-fil-A, and as usual said a prayer before the meal. Afterwards a gentleman followed them outside and introduced himself. He said the reason he wanted to know this group of bikers, was because "we prayed before the meal." John said, this just demonstrates how you never know when you are going to be an influence on someone, positive or negative. So keep the faith and always remember we can have an impact on those around us. We don't often know the Lord's plan, but He does have one, and one day we will stand before Him and He will help us to understand. John read to us from 1 Corinthians 15:58, where we are reminded to "stand firm, always giving yourself fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain."

The meeting ended with John leading us in a final prayer, asking for the Lord's blessings on all present and absent.
